Bringing New Life and Functionality on a Tight Timeline
The Challenge: Renovate an 1800 sq ft chiropractic clinic within two weeks.
This renovation required a complete shutdown of the doctor’s office for two weeks. We had no time to spare and no room for error. This was her livelihood, her business, and every minute lost meant a loss in revenue. The planning and design were months in the making. Every detail was perfected prior to the first swing of the sledgehammer 🙂
From a design lens, the original office space required a burst of life and renewed energy as it didn’t reflect her level of expertise or the service(s) provided at the clinic. My goal was to utilize the floor space more effectively by designing a new floor plan and achieving a bright, professional, open concept with improved flow for both the patients and the staff.
The reception desk was bulky and took up more floor space than required and provided absolutely zero function and flow for patients and staff. A custom built reception desk was required to fit all the needs of staff, patients and improve this vital space.
The new reception desk became the area of focus. I wanted to ensure that every feature fit the day to day flow of staff and patients. I considered every design detail – from the natural light flowing into the space to the placement of a coffee cup. With this in mind, we created a mockup of the reception desk so the doctor and her staff could critique the design prior to its production. Once finalized, the other areas of the floor plan took shape.
The reception area needed to reflect the clinic’s integrity, focus on patient care and the holistic approach to the clinic’s services. A magnificent wall mural was developed to provide the WOW factor upon entry while being informative and educational for the patients. The chairs in the reception area had to reflect the services provided, therefore beautiful commercial low back support chairs were brought in from Toronto to meet this need.
We expanded the rehabilitation area as the number of patients were growing and the current space was too small. The doctor’s patients includes many newborns and infants so we developed a fun interactive examination room just for those little clients.
The colour scheme was created to bring a renewed energy to the space.
When your client tells you the end result is everything she dreamed of and more, as a designer, you can’t ask for anything better.
